Public Holidays over the Easter period for NSW and ACT

Under the National Employment Standards, Good Friday and Easter Monday are recognised as the two National Public Holidays over the Easter period.

In NSW, Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday are also designated public holidays under Section 4 of NSW's Public Holidays Act 2010.

In the ACT, Easter Saturday is also recognised as a public holiday under the ACT's Holidays Act 1958.

Restricted shop trading applies in NSW on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. However, Newsagencies are listed as an exempt shop under Schedule 1 of the NSW's Retail Trading Act 2008 and may trade on these days.

In short, Newsagents in NSW and ACT will typically conduct their business under the contracted trading hours of premises for public holidays and non-public holidays as per the above table. Please note that ACT Newsagents on Easter Sunday will typically conduct their business under the trading hours for Sunday trading hours.

NSW Lotteries has advised NANA that normal trading hours for the sale of lottery products apply for Easter Saturday, Sunday and Monday except for Good Friday where Newsagents are closed.
