A number of Members of the Newsagents Association of NSW & ACT (NANA) have asked for NANA's comments about the new contract being rolled out by Australia Post (ie the Community Postal Agent Agreement).

Lately, Australia Post appears to be signing up as many retailers and small businesses as possible as Community Postal Agents, which is different from licensed post offices and PostPoint resellers.

The Newsagents Association of NSW & ACT (NANA) can confirm that it is in detailed discussions with Transport NSW to develop a bulk purchase and distribution arrangement "as similar as possible" to those enjoyed by supermarkets.

The current 2.5% margin for Newsagents reselling Sydney Bus tickets is and has been uncommercial since its introduction over 6 years ago. NANA hopes that this possible new arrangement with Transport NSW will provide the commercial viability that Newsagents have been demanding since the previous NSW State Government.

The Newsagents Association of NSW & ACT (NANA) recommends that Member Newsagents consult their accountants and financial planners for more analysis on last night's 2013 Federal Budget. That said, NANA has provided some commentary that will be of interest to NANA Members.

This Federal Budget failed to deliver the promised $1.5 billion surplus, but instead showed a $19.4 billion deficit for 2012/2013, projects another deficit of $18 billion in 2013/14, a balanced budget by 2015/16 and a surplus by 2016/17.

The 2013 Federal Budget generally offered no obvious/direct support for Newsagents (as small businesses) with the lack of tax relief, higher personal income tax (Medicare levy), no capital gains tax relief, no cost offset to fund the hike in the superannuation levy and no reduction in tax compliance and red-tape.
